Random Thoughts

I just realized with all the social networks that I've joined, I have one too many passwords! Sometimes, I get them mixed up, or I don't remember them at all and then I create new ones. To keep them safe, would I need a password too?

I love comments. I mean who doesn't. However, I get turned off when you visit a site, and you leave comments all the time but you never hear from the author. It's nice when someone returns the favor, takes the time to read your post, and leave a thoughtful response.

It's almost June, and I know Mr. O will be on vacation soon. He likes to torment me with secrecy. One day, he'll be home, and say, "I'm on vacation." Oh, really? I think he's trying to avoid errands, renovations, and plans all together.

My youngest son, J.P loves to give out hugs - especially to the crossing guard near his school. He gives her a hug every single day. Last week, she surprised him with a batch of brownies. Isn't that sweet?

On Friday's post, I mentioned that my blog is my own little space; my world. You bet it is! I switched to my own custom domain. Yay! So, I'll definitely be here for a while.

How Long Are You Going to Blog?

"How long are you going to blog?"

This is the question my husband asked me a few weeks ago. Actually, he brought up this subject quite often this year. And to answer his question - I'm not sure how long I will be blogging. All I know is that it's my own little space; my world.

I started this blog on a whim - not certain what to expect, and where it would take me. (To read my very first post, go here.) I've learned so much even though I've been blogging for a year. For me, it's a place to share stories, and experiences, to interact and to be creative.

And it's the writing that brings me back here.

As much as I love to write, I love to read your blogs. I get inspired from other bloggers.

So, for now I'll keep my blog.

As long as I have something to write about, and to keep me interested, and inspired then I'll continue on.

And I can't believe it's my 100th post! Never thought I'd see the day!

Happy Friday!

The List

It may be short or long but it's the dreaded paper my husband doesn't want to see - the so called list.

What's all the fuss?

It only contains the essentials - milk, eggs, bread, and whole wheat bread. Sometimes, bananas, apples and yogurt are on the list too. How many items can I have on this?

Growing boys mean bigger appetites.

And shopping with them is no easy task. Often times the boys are restless, tired and grumpy. They are in a hurry to go home.

However, they're always happy to visit Costco. After school shopping turns out to be an evening eating out. I'll never know why they like to eat pizza over there.

It's no surprise, we'll spend more time looking at the electronics, books and DVDS; and somehow more items end up in the cart. What happened? How did we get side-tracked?

So, that's why I prefer to shop alone, or have my husband do errands. Don't forget that list!

Can you pick up a few things on your way home? We just need the essentials.

What Not to Do on a Long Weekend

On a long weekend, one shouldn't wake up at 6 AM! Who set the alarm clock? Arggh! Why can't I ever sleep in?

For relaxation, one shouldn't give haircuts but for some reason cutting the boys' hair is very therapeutic. Call me crazy!

When going to a barbeque, one should eat hamburgers, hot dogs, and potato salad. I opted for the baked chicken, corn on the cob and my mom's specialty egg rolls. Sigh!

And for desserts, one shouldn't indulge in too many sweets. I started with a plate of fresh fruit but worked my way to the pound cake, and then onto my sister-in-law's famous funnel cake - drizzled in strawberry sauce, and topped with vanilla ice cream! Oh my!

When you want to spend less time on the computer, one shouldn't purchase iPod Touch! What were we thinking? Tsk. Tsk.

And to enjoy the great outdoors, one shouldn't take an afternoon nap! But the cool breeze made it so inviting! Just another excuse to avoid the heat and humidity.

We had a fabulous weekend...can't wait for the next one!

The Long Weekend

It has been a glorious week of sunshine, and the boys are happy to say goodbye to their bulky sweaters. And gladly wear their t-shirts and shorts to school. The warm weather has certainly been distracting - they seem more restless indoors; and want to run and play around all day! Yesterday, I had to ask them to settle down, and be quiet. What was I thinking? And after dinner, the first thing on their minds was ice cream!

The boys have been giddy and excited - J.P is thrilled it's the Fun Fair at his school today. His older brother can't wait to see his uncle at the family barbeque. They are also delighted that it's the Victoria Day long weekend! More gardening, nature strolls, picture taking and fireworks! Yay!

Here's J.P sporting his sunglasses and loving the sunshine! What a beautiful day!

~ Have a great weekend!

The Crush

Last week, while we were having dinner my eldest son revealed to me that he had a crush. Really? I almost choked on my food when he told me. I was even more surprised that one of his classmates had a girlfriend.

To be honest, I think it's sweet that he likes a girl in his class but I told him to concentrate more on his school work, and guitar lessons. And that he'll have plenty of time to have a girlfriend when he's older. (Preferably when he's twenty years old, and finished school!)

Call me old-fashioned but I just want my kids to be kids.  Is that too much to ask?

He's only ten years old!!!

Why do they want to grow up so fast?

I don't want my son to worry about impressing the girls, and acting cool. I tell him that he's too young to have a girlfriend, and he should just enjoy his childhood. It's fine to be friends with the girls but nothing more. Luckily, my son seemed to agree with me, and didn't pursue the subject. Besides, he's the shy type anyway.

What's the rush? Let kids be kids.

Spring Make Over

Before the school year, I bought the boys school supplies, and a pair of new running shoes. I was thinking, and hoping the footwear would last a good six months.

I was wrong.

A month later, A.R told me his shoes were worn out. Even J.P's shoes were looking shabby. What? It's brand new! I looked at their footwear again, and luckily, it was still in good condition.

I refused to buy them a new pair. They'd have to learn how to take care of their belongings.

However,  I soon discovered that socks, jeans, spring jackets and baseball hats don't last very long either.

What the heck do these boys do during recess?

My kids need a spring make over! And a haircut.

So, later we're off shopping for some new shoes, and a new wardrobe. And hopefully, it will last until the end of the school year.

Pass the Tomato Guts

When it's mealtime, you'll always find a bottle of sauce on the table.

You see, I cook a simple meal. It's not bland or salty. I just can't have spicy foods.

I'm not really into sauces but my husband likes to spice up certain dishes. So, the pantry must be stocked with an assortment of his favourite sauces - plum, barbeque, hot, rib and soy sauce. It seems whatever is on the menu, there has to be a sauce!

My boys are beginning to like the variety of dressings.

And to make dinner exciting; instead of asking for ketchup, my boys will say, "Pass the tomato guts, please!" I must say they have a wild imagination!

If the condiments are running low; I'll hear nothing but slapping, and squeezing of the bottle until every last ounce comes out!

Usually, it splatters and spills all over.

When there are chicken nuggets and fries to dip in a honey mustard sauce, there's nothing but a mess; stains and more laundry!

But that's okay, I like to add more flavour every now and then.

Besides, who wants to eat a boring meal anyway?

So Spoiled

This year Mother's Day came early for me. Last month, my husband surprised me with a new camera, and I absolutely love it!

He also gave me his old 19-inch computer monitor. All I can say is that I love reading your blogs on a much bigger screen!

On weekends, he orders take-out so I wouldn't have to cook.

I even get pampered with daily massages.

And last week, he helped out with gardening - cutting the grass and reseeding the lawn. What a wonderful husband!

I just realized I'm so spoiled!

Mr.O seems to thinks so. He says Mother's Day is everyday. Oops!

So, yesterday I didn't mind spending a quiet Mother's Day at home. I was content to be with my boys. I love watching my kids play in the family room, and snuggling with Mr.O on the couch while watching movies. It was a relaxing and happy day. What more could I ask for?

I am truly blessed.

The Big Brother

All week J.P has been waiting for his brother to come home from school. And yesterday he was excited as ever; bouncing off the walls, pacing back and forth, and looking out the window for the school bus. Why is he so hyper? Is it the warm weather? What is going on? As soon as the bus arrives, J.P races downstairs to greet his brother at the front door.

"Did you get it?"

"Uh-huh. Here's your Ben 10 book that you wanted!"

J.P is ecstatic, and showers his older brother with hugs and kisses. My husband and I praise A.R's thoughtfulness, and tell him he's such a good big brother. Apparently, he used his birthday money to buy the animated series book from the school book fair. Isn't that sweet of him?

We often remind A.R of his role in the family; that being the eldest, his responsibility is to watch out for his little brother, and to be there for him. But this is the first time, he actually did something so considerate for J.P.

I think it's finally sinking in - A.R is beginning to understand what it means to be a big brother. And that makes us very happy.

It certainly made the little guy's day - he couldn't even put down his new book!

Spring Flowers

The skies cleared up when I took J.P to school this morning. And seeing my lilacs getting a little sun made me very happy. What a lovely way to start off the day...

This is my favourite time of year when the crab apple tree blooms. Look at these deep pink flowers!

I'll be tending the garden, and spring cleaning this week so I'll be quite busy. Hope to post more gardening pictures soon!

Happy Monday!
